Leaves of Grass
Directed by Jeremy Bloom and choreographed by Nikki Zaleski
Once described obscene for its overt sexuality, Walt Whitman’s collection of poems in Leaves of Grass takes on new life through a naked, dance-inspired adaptation.
Conceived and directed by Jeremy Bloom, Leaves of Grass features a diverse, unclothed cast of 20 performers rhythmically delivering Whitman’s most groundbreaking poems including “Song of Myself,” "I Sing the Body Electric," and "Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking." Experience Walt Whitman's epic text as chamber theater meets dance theater meets congregation meets celebration – and join Whitman in proclaiming, "If I worship one thing more than another, it shall be the spread of my own body."

the dialogues # 3
Curated by Artistic Associate Dexter Bullard
A series of improvised intimate phone calls between two well-known Chicago performers unknown to each other - while the audience uses headphones to listen in...
Nine Monday nights this fall, a new set of two award-winning performers are put "on the line" with someone they don't know and cannot see. What ensues is a live and lively conversation led only by voice and meaning - dreams, stories, humor, controversy, and communion in 50-minutes of totally unplanned dialogue. A guest sonic artist live mixes a hypnotic underbed to the tones of the conversation. After every performance, the entire audience is welcome to come out for a drink and a chance to "continue the conversation." |

In Pieces
Striding Lion Performance Group celebrates its 10th Anniversary Season and the return of Founding Artistic Director Annie Beserra with In Pieces, an evening of new dance theater works by Annie Beserra and Adriana Durant, featuring live music by Fluid Minds.
In “Chemical Reactions,” choreographer Adriana Durant explores how the brain and the body engage obsession and fame in a red-carpet-lined trio danced by her, Annie Beserra and Daniel Goode. Building on Durant’s multi-media examination of the pedestal of celebrity, Annie Beserra’s “Slip” takes a long hard look at the human fear of obscurity and the desperate measures we’ll take to avoid that dreadful fall. The piece is accompanied by the live rock-band Fluid Minds playing Gamma Wave, their newest EP inspired by the 40Hz brain waves thought to imply consciousness and attentive focus. |

Butoh 50 Years: A New Vision? Hiroko and Koichi Tamano
Presented by Links Hall and Blushing Poppy Productions
Butoh legends Hiroko and Koichi Tamano are coming to Chicago for the first time for a 5-day workshop culminating in a performance at Links Hall. The Tamanos studied for more than ten years with Tasumi Hijikata who sent them to the US to bring Butoh to the West. Their company Harupin Ha Butoh Dance Theatre was named by Hijikata meaning those who dance Butoh will achieve an awareness of being alive.
The Tamanos have lived in Berkeley since the late 70s and have paved the way for the first generation of American Butoh artists. They plan to retire later this year and return to Japan where the emperor has declared Koichi a national treasure.
Leading up to the performance 15 Chicago artists will study with the Tamanos and perform with them in this one-night-only event.
