Links Hall Dance Classes
are dedicated to nurturing the unique creativity of your own dance
expression -- through the exploration and practice of contemporary
dance methods with passionate, intelligent, and informed artist-instructors.
CLASS POLICIES
Classes are open to all participants with at least beginning/intermediate
skills in body/mind awareness (such as those developed through dance,
yoga, martial arts, etc.) Please wear bare feet and comfortable
clothing, and arrive at least 5 minutes prior to class to sign in
and change. Refunds only in cases of illness or injury.
CLASS PRICES/ REGISTRATION
Single class $12, 5 classes $50, 10 classes $85, 20 classes $150.
Call 773.281.0824 to sign up. Classes with less than 5 pre-registered
students will be canceled.
Movement Discovery Lab
with Molly Shanahan
October 7 through December 18, 2003
Tuesdays and Thursdays
10am – 12noon
A focused community laboratory for those interested in exploring
the integration of unique personal movement style with bio-mechanical
integrity. Self-discovery will be encouraged, in the practice of
dance material given by Shanahan, and participants will also be
challenged to invent their own movement sequences without obligation
to compositional traditions. (Class will not be held on November
27 in observance of Thanksgiving). Molly Shanahan is the Founder
and Choreographer of Mad Shak Dance Company and teaches throughout
Chicago. She maintains a daily practice of improvisation toward
the evolution of her choreographic voice.
Dance/Texture with Adriana Durant
September 2 through October 2, 2003
Tuesdays and Thursdays
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Enrich your artistry and extend your range by practicing a comprehensive
range of movement qualities. Choreographer Adriana Durant leads
a study of dance movement with a variety of textures and effects.
The class will begin with an improvisation-based warm up, and then
specific phrase material will be investigated, repeated, and reiterated
through shifting uses of weight, time, direction, use of space,
etc. Adriana Durant is a Chicago-based independent choreographer.

Motion Techniques

Per Class $15, Seven Classes $70
Tune the body with a vigorous, detailed focus on
the act of motion from the inside out. Breathing, energetics, improvisation,
physics, methods and techniques set the stage for an extended phrase
of dynamic, three-dimensional choreography. The class builds from
stillness to performance, offering a training ground for a responsive
and expressive body. Angie Hauser is a dancer who continues to bring
together diverse styles and techniques in her work, which includes
performing, improvising, teaching and choreography. Kathleen Hermesdorf
has been dancing in San Francisco since 1991 where she is on faculty
at ODC School. Both are current members of the Bebe Miller Company.

This class is an exploration of the playground and
practice of Contact Improvisation. Experiments of shared weight,
three-dimensional space, trust, risk and spontaneous composition
progress into skills, scores and open dancing.

Energize and deepen your dance practice for the Fall season, reconnect
to your love of movement! Each class will include an anatomically-based
warmup, improvisation, composition, and dance sequences that challenge
and inspire. (Class will not be held on November 29 in observance
of Thanksgiving). Lisa Wymore is a performer, choreographer, co-director
of Hi! Performance, and a dance faculty member at Northwestern University.
