Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 8pm
Admission $12; $10 students

Living Memory/Living Absence marks the return of Cambodian American artist Anida Yoeu Esguerra to her birth country after 25 years of absence. The multimedia work traces Esguerra’s poetic fears of returning to a country she never knew. Esguerra performs poetry with movement inspired by Butoh set against a video backdrop of the sites and sounds of her memories of Cambodia. Presented as part of the 10th Annual Chicago Asian American Jazz Festival, the evening includes an opening musical performance by Amy Homma.

“Without a doubt, Anida Yoeu Esguerra has one of the sharpest tongues in America. Her spoken word performances have been known to make audiences cry, cheer and think – all in one breath”-

Erin Carlisle Norton premiers Two Stories, a highly physical movement duet which questions and plays with the laws of architecture and companionship. Using the paralyzed body as a landscape, Ashley Steimer and Elizabeth Carlton collaborate on SpinousProcess, exploring the connection between a woman’s spine and her physical strength, emotional well-being, and sense of self. Stacy Thomas Wolfson presents Give Me One More Day, using the interaction of video and movement to highlight the everyday frustration, joy, monotony, and humor which are inherent in one’s daily routine. Original works are also featured by guest choreographers Megan Schneeberger and Carleen Healy.
