WORKSHOPS
Don’t let the winter blues creep into your
bones just yet. These late autumn workshops will get you thinking
and moving, whether you’re an old pro or taking your first
step.
For more information or to register for any
of the following workshops contact Erica or CJ at 773.281.0824 or

Learn How to Fall.
The Bodyslam Technique
with Atalee Judy of Breakbone DanceCo.
November 5, 8, 12, 14, 19 & 21, 2005
Saturdays 1pm-3pm,
Mondays and Tuesdays 8pm-10pm
$100 (includes B-bone muscle tee)
The Bodyslam Technique, developed by Atalee Judy, builds strong
physiques, challenges individual fears, and empowers body intelligence.
Learn to change your concept of how the human body falls. Beginning
with strengthening exercises that embrace gravity and develop intuitive
falling concepts, and through guided exercises and repetition, Atalee
will retrain our instincts to overcome fears that prevent our bodies
from pure intuitive movement. Techniques include: sequential falls,
break falls, back falls, hovercrafting, flatplaning, twisting en'lair
and, of course, landing safely without injury. www.breakbone.com
All classes will be taught on Breakbone's 3/4"
Martial Art foam flooring. Workshop participants will be expected
to have no prior injuries. Knee pads are recommended. For intermediate
level dancers, martial artists, physical actors (with stage combat
training), and gymnasts.
Dance Improvisation -being
as it is
with Ayako Kato of Art Union Humanscape
November 28-December 12, 2005
Mondays from 6pm-8pm
$15 for one class $40 for all three
Our body movement is influenced by our memory and experience as
human beings. In this class, Kato will explore how to realize full
moments of being in diverse ways, how to grasp the whole as environment,
and how to grasp our body from the core as one in space and time.
This class starts with release and stretch movement informed by
anatomy, acupoint self-massage, deep breathing, Qi Gong, and imagery.

Do-It-Yourself Grant Research
with Sarah Best
December 10, 2005
Saturday 9am-12pm
$30
Learn how to do basic grant research using the internet and other
resources. Develop creative strategies for pursuing funding and
gain an in-depth knowledge of how to find and interpret information
that will help you assess whether a prospective funder is a good
match. Although some resources for independent artists will be discussed,
this workshop is geared towards artists who have incorporated or
are thinking of incorporating as a non-profit.
Solo Development Workshop
with Molly Shanahan
of Mad Shak Dance Company
December 17 & 18, 2005
Saturday 1pm-5:30pm & Sunday 2pm-5pm
$65
This two day workshop develops tools to build a solo creative/movement
process for intermediate/advanced movers. Understand your movement
preferences and expand your dance technique, memory, and appreciation
of the body's inherent potential to create order from chaos. Participants
will explore assumptions about their own movement and create internal
physical space for new possibilities born of their curiosity to
view themselves and their environment differently. Consisting largely
of guided improvisation with suggestive imagery and feedback, tools
are developed to approach composition from the interior of the moving
experience rather than to fulfill an outcome-based aesthetic standard.
