Peter Carpenter
Choreography Workshop

Saturdays, December 1 & 8, 12:30pm-4:30pm
$60

Participants will work on choreographic issues beginning with vocabulary and syntax in the first workshop and continue on to structural concerns in the second, eschewing opinions regarding what a good dance should be in favor of pursuing relationships between consistency and inconsistency, limitations and excess, delight and offense. Sessions will be divided between group workshops, feedback sessions, and solo choreographic generation. This workshop is open to all artists who use movement as a primary ingredient in their work.

Peter Carpenter is an independent choreographer whose work has intersected with political activism and critical theory. He was a member of the now defunct XSIGHT! Performance Group from 1993-2001. He received his MFA in Dance from UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures in 2003 and is currently writing his dissertation for a PhD in Culture and Performance Studies (also from UCLA). He is a full-time faculty member at the Dance Center of Columbia College where he teaches choreography and dance studies courses.

Molly Shanahan/Mad Shak
Solo Process Workshop

Saturday, December 15, 1pm-5pm
Sunday, December 16, 2pm-4:30pm
Monday, December 17, 6pm-8:30pm
$65

This workshop is for the mindful mover who wishes to deepen his/her movement practice. No particular emphasis is placed on performance. Participants are encouraged to encounter their internal observer toward an expanded view of his/herself, and should be interested in a deeper level of authenticity, softening boundaries, and reframing judgment. Shanahan directs this journey with invitations to move, observe and relish in spontaneous discovery.

Molly Shanahan/Mad Shak supports innovation and collaboration though the development and presentation of dance performances and other programs that engage the public in a deeper understanding and appreciation of the creative process.
