Reaching Beyond Boundaries

$35 ($25 students, unemployed),
REGISTER NOW!
Learn how to use break dancing, gymnastics, and capoeira as dance techniques, and build skills to make improvisation communicate clearly to an audience. LeGendre, who was based in Seattle for 15 years but now dances and teaches in New England, will teach two of her own specialty techniques:
Technique /Beyond Vertical - this technique class provides an understanding of one’s body in supported dancing on the floor, in the air, and upside down. Students will find courage and stability to fly into simple gymnastic tricks such as rolls, handstand, and related but more exciting manipulations. The goal is to seek, adore, and make peace with disorientation in full-scale phrase work.
Ensemble Thinking - Based in the work of pioneer improviser Nina Martin, this system of scores helps us to make clear points of departure for thinking about, looking at, talking about, and making clear and innovative dance performance. In this part of the workshop we’ll look at supporting the focus and taking the focus. This simple but powerful skill helps us internalize how to direct the audience’s eye and how to make performable improvisation that communicates clearly to an audience.
